Reefer Containers for Sale Across Australia
SCS Australia sells new refrigerated containers in three sizes: the 10ft, the 20ft and the 40ft high cube. Each one is a steel box with polyurethane foam walls and its own refrigeration unit in the front wall, holding any set point from -30°C to +30°C. In the shipping trade the box is a reefer, or refrigerated sea container, and our guide explains how a reefer container works. All the reefer containers for sale on this page are new units, quoted as a delivered price to your site. Beside them sit the insulated shipping container, a new lined box with no refrigeration unit, and, for offshore lifts, DNV reefer containers.

Sizes and specs
Sizes and Types in the Range
The 10ft suits tight sites: a cafe’s rear yard, a florist’s back door, a farm-gate stall or a small event. It holds the same -30°C to +30°C as the larger units in a 2,991 mm footprint, with two Australian pallets on the floor or shelving for cartons and crates.
At 2,060 kg empty it is the lightest unit to move and place. The small refrigerated container page has its full specifications.
The 20ft is the size most sites order: 28.9 m³ inside, four Australian pallets on the floor and a load space about 5,460 mm long. Camp kitchens, caterers and food producers run it as a working cold store.
Its figures and options are on the 20ft reefer page. Goods that need no cooling at all can go in one of our standard containers, which need no power.
The largest unit holds 67.6 m³ and nine Australian pallets, all on one 32 A three phase outlet. It serves as a camp’s central cold store or a warehouse’s overflow freezer.
The 40ft reefer page covers its running use, its load capacity and why it is built as a high cube.
This one is a new high cube box in 20ft or 40ft, with 50 mm EPS panels lining its walls, roof and doors. It keeps stock steadier than a bare steel box does and needs no power.
It is not a refrigerated storage container: when the goods need a set temperature, air conditioning is fitted to order. The insulated container page covers both sizes.
Refrigerated Containers
Freezer Shipping Container or Chiller
Every reefer in the range works as both a freezer and a chiller, holding any set point from +30°C down to -30°C. Set at +1°C to +8°C, it chills fresh produce, dairy and drinks, and the FSANZ temperature control rules keep chilled, potentially hazardous food at 5°C or below. Set at -18°C to -25°C, the same unit is a freezer shipping container for meat, seafood and ice. One controller switches between the two, so a buyer after a container freezer for sale gets a chiller as well and can move from chilled to frozen stock between seasons. A reefer holds goods at temperature. It is not built to freeze warm product fast: that is the job of a blast freezer.
Refrigerated Containers
Blast Freezer Shipping Container Builds
A blast freezer shipping container pulls fresh product down to frozen fast, where a standard reefer holds product that is already cold. Seafood, meat and bakery producers use one to freeze a batch straight after processing. We build blast freezers in 20ft and 40ft to order, with the refrigeration plant sized at quote to your product and the pull-down time you need. Tell us what goes in, the temperature it arrives at and how quickly it must be frozen, and we specify the build around those figures.
Refrigerated Containers
Cool Room Containers for Sites and Events
Cool room containers are reefers fitted out for staff to walk in and out all day. The fit-out is chosen at order: a personnel door, strip curtains that hold the cold in while the door is open, shelving, internal LED lighting, and an internal emergency release with an alarm so nobody can be shut inside. Event and festival caterers use a cool room container for drinks and fresh food, restaurants for overflow stock, florists for flowers and camp kitchens for the week’s supplies. It arrives ready to plug in and leaves when the job ends. Our guide to a cold room container compared with a built cool room sets out when each one is the better choice.
Applications
Refrigerated Storage Containers by Industry
Refrigerated storage containers put cold stock next to the work. Mining and resources camps run them as cold stores beside the kitchen. Construction sites keep catering supplies cold for crews a long way from town. Growers, farmers and seafood businesses stage produce in a cold storage container before it goes to market or port. Hospitality venues and event operators add capacity for peak trade. Clinics and pharmacies hold vaccines and medicines at a set point, with the controller’s temperature log kept as a record. Supermarkets and distributors cover seasonal overflow without taking on more cold store space. Hazardous chemicals are a separate case: they belong in one of our dangerous goods containers, built to AS1940.
Refrigerated Containers
Single Phase or Three Phase Reefer Power
Every reefer runs from a 32 A three phase outlet as standard, at 380 to 460 V through a 5-pin plug, installed by a licensed electrician to AS/NZS 3000. For shops, farms and small sites without three phase, we supply single phase refrigerated containers with a 240 V unit ordered for the site. We confirm the set-point range on a single phase unit when we quote, so tell us the temperature you need first. Running use is about 3 to 7 kWh an hour, depending on the set point and the weather, and off-grid sites run a reefer from a genset. Keep about 1.2 m clear around the refrigeration unit so air moves freely through it.
Delivery
Delivery Across Australia
We deliver new reefers Australia-wide from distribution hubs near Brisbane, Perth, Darwin and Sydney, to Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart as well as regional and remote sites. Each refrigerated shipping container arrives by tilt tray, side loader or Hi-AB crane truck, chosen to suit the size and the access. The site needs a level, firm pad and room for the truck, and the outlet should be live at the pad on the day, so the unit can start cooling as soon as it is placed. Send the address and any access limits with your enquiry, and we plan the truck around them.
Why SCS Australia
Why Buy Your Reefer From SCS Australia
One supplier covers every size from the 10ft to the 40ft high cube, so a site can mix units on one order. The reefers sit within our wider range of specialised containers.
FAQ
Questions Before You Buy
Are there refrigerated shipping containers for sale?
Yes. Every refrigerated shipping container for sale in our range is new: the 10ft, the 20ft and the 40ft high cube, each with its own refrigeration unit holding -30°C to +30°C. We deliver Australia-wide, and each quote covers the unit, the options you choose and delivery to your site.
What is a temperature-controlled storage unit?
A container that holds a set temperature. A reefer cools or warms its load to the set point with its own refrigeration unit. An insulated container has no unit and only slows temperature change, unless air conditioning is fitted. For food, medicines or anything else with a temperature limit, choose a reefer.
Can a reefer run on single phase power?
Yes, on a 240 V single phase unit ordered for it. Three phase at 32 A and 380 to 460 V is the standard supply. The single phase unit suits sites without three phase, and we confirm its set-point range at quote, so tell us the temperature you need before you order.
Are blast freezers worth it?
Yes, when fresh product must be frozen quickly after processing, as seafood, meat and bakery goods often are. For stock that arrives already frozen, a standard reefer at -18°C to -25°C holds it, and a blast freezer’s extra plant would sit idle. We size each blast freezer build to the product at quote.
How cold can a refrigerated shipping container go?
Down to -30°C, with any set point up to +30°C, so one unit works as a freezer or a chiller. Frozen goods are usually held at -18°C to -25°C and chilled goods at +1°C to +8°C. On a single phase unit, we confirm the set-point range at quote.
What does a reefer need on site before delivery?
Power at the pad, either a 32 A three phase outlet wired by a licensed electrician or a single phase unit ordered for the site. It also needs a level, firm pad, about 1.2 m of clear space around the refrigeration unit, and room for a tilt tray, side loader or Hi-AB truck to get in.
