Dangerous Goods Shipping Containers

Bunded DG Storage Built to AS1940

SCS Australia sells three dangerous goods shipping containers: the 10ft, the standard 20ft and the 20ft double side door unit. Each one is a high cube, marine-grade Corten steel store with a welded steel bund under the floor grating, high and low vents and an internal emergency exit, built to AS1940 for flammable and combustible liquids.

A dangerous goods container from SCS Australia is a bunded shipping container made for one job: keeping fuels, solvents, acids and other hazardous stock locked away from people and work areas, with any spill caught underneath. Every DG container in the range is delivered fully assembled and ready to load. If you are comparing dangerous goods containers for sale, the table below sets the three side by side.

DG Container Types and Sizes

Each DG container type suits a different amount of stock and a different way of loading it.

The compact store, for a few drums of fuel, paint or farm chemicals on a site where space or access is short. It sits beside a building or along a fence line and weighs 1,750 kg empty.

Choose the 10ft dangerous goods container when the stock is modest. It has the same bund, vents and emergency exit as the 20ft units, in half the footprint.

Chemical Classes You Can Store

Our dangerous goods storage containers give flexible storage for chemical classes 3, 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, 6.1 and 8, subject to each product’s SDS:

  • Class 3, flammable liquids such as fuels, paints and solvents
  • Class 4.1, flammable solids
  • Class 4.3, substances that are dangerous when wet
  • Class 5.1, oxidisers
  • Class 6.1, toxic substances such as pesticides
  • Class 8, corrosives such as acids and alkalis

The DG container class you store decides how the inside is laid out, because some products react with each other and need separating within the store. Read each SDS before loading, and Safe Work Australia’s model Code of Practice on managing risks of hazardous chemicals sets out the duties that apply. Buyers searching for a hazchem container or a hazmat storage container are looking for the same thing.

What Every Unit Comes With

Every unit in the range carries the same safety build. A welded steel bund sized to the unit, from 800 L to 2,200 L, sits under removable galvanised grating that keeps drums and IBCs above a spill. High and low vents carry vapour out, an internal release means the store can always be opened from inside, and the floor is non-spark with no timber in it. Forklift pockets and lifting eyes make it easy to place and relocate, and the shell is marine-grade Corten steel. The 10ft and the standard 20ft add a lockable 316L stainless steel drain valve to empty the bund.

Options are fitted before delivery: shelving for drums and IBCs, mechanical ventilation, DG placards and safety signs, a safety yellow or custom paint colour, and ramps to the doors. The same build makes these chemical storage containers for sale suitable for corrosive and toxic stock as well as flammables.

Where DG Containers Work Hardest

Mining sites store fuels, lubricants and processing reagents on remote pads close to the plant. Construction crews keep fuel, paint and solvents in one locked store for the length of a project. Farms hold pesticides, herbicides and liquid fertiliser away from sheds and stock. Councils and government depots store pool chemicals, paint and cleaning products. Oil and gas operators keep solvents and process chemicals at plants and yards, and warehouses use a dangerous goods shipping container for overflow DG stock outside the main building, where it stays out of the way of daily work.

Delivery

Delivery Across Australia

Every unit arrives fully assembled, by Hi-AB, tilt tray, semi and crane or side loader, depending on the site. It needs a level, firm pad and clear access for the truck. We deliver to capital cities and regional sites alike, from Rockhampton, Mackay, Toowoomba and Cairns in Queensland to the Pilbara in Western Australia. Dangerous goods shipping containers are part of our wider range of specialised containers, and the 10ft containers page lists the 10ft unit beside our other compact containers.

FAQ

DG Container Questions

Which classes can a DG container hold?

Our units give flexible storage for chemical classes 3, 4.1, 4.3, 5.1, 6.1 and 8, subject to each product’s SDS. Incompatible products must be kept apart inside the store.

What size bund do I need?

AS1940 sizes spill containment to the liquid you store. Our bunds run from 800 L in the 10ft to 2,200 L in the 20ft double side door, so tell us your largest drum or IBC and the total volume and we will match the unit to it.

Should I choose the standard 20ft or the double side door unit?

The standard 20ft opens along one long side plus the end, which suits a store against a fence or wall. The double side door unit opens along both long sides plus the end, for stores loaded from either side of a yard.

Are the units weatherproof?

Yes. The shells are marine-grade Corten steel, built to stand outdoors in Australian conditions on mine sites, farms and coastal yards.

What do I need on site?

A level, firm pad and clear access for the delivery truck. The double side door unit also needs forklift room on both long sides.
